The starting point of the Can Carrencà multipurpose space project is the integration of the new building into the park, which is conceived as a newly renaturalized space, with permeable boundaries, ecologically connected to the natural areas of the Serralada de Marina. To achieve this synergy between building and park, longitudinal corten steel planes arranged perpendicular to the slope allow greenery to flow between them, organizing the landscaping while at the same time acting as structural ribs of the new building, thus creating a unity between natural order and construction.

The landscape design proposes a project for the entire park (in this first phase not yet developed), which, through a pentagram of corten steel ribs, organizes circulations and topography, introducing a pedestrian axis that crosses the park longitudinally, connecting its different levels. At the level where the farmhouse is located, the new multipurpose space has been placed, with an L-shaped volume that generates a square: a new pole of attraction strong enough to become an urban center for Martorelles. From this square, access is provided to the large multipurpose hall, and it is also where the new bar will be located, acting as a dynamic element and as a “closure” to the space.

In the building, the corten planes, now converted into structural walls, support the large green roof, conceived as an extension of the park’s surface. The walkable roofs above the gallery and the bar represent an extension of the park’s accessible areas so that the paths continue over the building. At the same time, the perpendicular arrangement of the ribs to the slope and the preservation of the northeast façade embankment bring the landscape into the building and allow through-views, ensuring that the construction does not interrupt the visual continuity of the landscape.
Following the building layout set by the planning regulations, the proposed volumetry seeks to open toward the best orientation to ensure optimal energy performance: the bar facing southeast and the large volume of the multipurpose space oriented to the southeast and southwest. On the first floor are the offices for local associations. All façades incorporate automated systems of blinds or micro-perforated corten shutters to protect against solar gain. Between the multipurpose hall, the square, and the bar lies the access gallery, used both as a circulation distributor and as a climatic buffer. The combination of these passive energy strategies with a system of photovoltaic panels and an aerothermal heat pump enables the creation of a nearly zero-energy building (nZEB).
